This concept organizes the project into a 5-story podium and a compact tower form above that incorporates both commercial office and the hotel/condominium units on the north end of the site. The concept for this proposal seeks to create a progressive, organic modernist architecture to abstract and celebrate the dynamics of Dalian and the natural beauty of the sea and mountains. The street level incorporates a green plaza on the south end of the site and creates covered entry spaces on the east and west edges. The podium of the building incorporates retail, commercial meeting spaces and offices. The roof garden level of the podium includes a dynamic gathering space for meetings, receptions and other ceremonial activities. This level also includes a pool and terrace area and sky lobby functions for guests. The architectural character of the podium abstracts cultural and natural images of the mountains and greenery that surround the city. The tower incorporates office, short and long-term hotel units with sky lobbies at each interval that also include interior and exterior garden spaces. At the top of the hotel tower a restaurant and private club/lounge and roof garden overlooking the city, sea and mountains beyond. The architecture creates offsets in the plan that defines an organic expression of the glass forms and window patterns. These offsets in the floor plan create views to the south and also provide natural light to the units. This creates a sculptural expression within an efficient floor plan. Within this exterior is the potential for solar collecting glass to reduce energy for the hotel. The potential for wind turbines within the delicate crown of the building adds detail and energy creation as well. |
