and Concepts
This concept takes advantage of the allowable site coverage by creating a three story retail, dining & meeting/conference facilities. The hourglass plan allows covered vehicle access to occur at both the east and west sides of the building along with ramp access on the east. The podium is capped by an undulating green roof form which recalls the nearby landscape of Dalian. The office occupies the lower block of the building which rests on the rolling green podium roof. The office block patterning is inspired by the window and fabric patterning of traditional Chinese culture. The residential tower is located at the north end of the site to allow for a green roof, pool and gathering structure on the roof of the office block. The residential tower consists of three elements. The main core of the tower is clad in a vertically oriented glass pattern to accentuate the height. The remaining tower is clad in a seemingly random placement of vertical window mullions to convey the sense of water or waves. The third layer is an insertion of vegetation at the sky lobbies and a narrow vertical band of vegetation on the north elevation. The tower is topped with a pair of wind turbines to allow for sustainable energy generation. |
